Wells

Many people on La Gonave Island walk hours every day in search of water. Children and women do most of the water carrying and so many children do not go to school. Poor soil and long dry seasons mean families cannot grow crops or keep much livestock.

Our goal is to fund one well per year for remote areas on La Gonave Island and the first well will be drilled at Roche Campe early in 2015.

The daily struggle of finding water – that may not be potable – means people are often dehydrated, hand hygiene is a luxury and diarrheal illness is common especially in young children.
